East Greenwich, R.I. – The town began its 350th anniversary commemorations on Saturday with the inaugural East Greenwich Heritage Festival, held at Academy Field and the Swift Community Center starting at 10 a.m.
“Today begins the year of the 350th anniversary of the town of East Greenwich,” said EG350 Committee Chair Matt Carcieri. “East Greenwich has an incredible history; it is actually the first master‑planned town in the nation and played a huge outsized role for the nation in the Revolutionary War.”
Festival Highlights
Festival organizer Rachel Arbige, project manager for the EG350 celebration, outlined the day’s activities. Attendees enjoyed a pop‑up museum showcasing artifacts and documents from the town’s colonial past, a colorful parade of participants dressed in period costume, and a family‑friendly petting zoo featuring farm animals.
In addition, a special screening of a documentary chronicling East Greenwich’s founding and development was presented on an outdoor screen, offering residents a visual journey through three and a half centuries of local history.
Special Brew and Future Events
Arbige also announced that a specialty beer will be brewed to commemorate the 350‑year milestone, providing a unique tasting experience for festivalgoers. The town plans to host additional events throughout the coming year, including historical tours, educational programs, and community gatherings, all designed to celebrate East Greenwich’s heritage as the anniversary approaches in October 2027.
For more information about upcoming festivities, residents can visit the official East Greenwich 350 website.
