Early voting kicked off this week in two Ozarks counties, giving residents a chance to cast their ballots before Election Day. In Greene County, Missouri, the no‑excuse absentee voting opened Tuesday at Springfield’s Library Center, and a line stretched out the door, according to County Clerk Shane Schoeller.
Springfield, Missouri
Clerk Schoeller reported that 1,993 Greene County ballots had been cast through Monday, including 1,371 in‑person votes. He said the turnout looks to be in the mid‑fifties to potentially the sixties percent range, but the final numbers will become clearer over the next two weeks.
Ingrid Brown, a Greene County voter, said she was glad to vote early. “Shorter lines. And also, I understand it will reduce lines on November third. So, yeah. Only positives,” she said.
Springfield voters also have city‑specific questions on their ballots, which will vary depending on their residence.
Harrison, Arkansas
Boone County Clerk Crystal Graddy said 548 people voted in person on Monday, a figure roughly in line with the first day of the 2022 midterm. Tuesday brought a steady flow of voters, and the county’s only early‑voting site is located on West Central in Harrison.
Graddy noted that many voters combine early voting with other errands, such as grocery shopping or paying bills. “If people want to early vote, they come in when they do their grocery shopping or whatever, pay their bills, whatever they’re doing, they’ll come by and early vote,” she explained.
David Thompson, traveling from Omaha, said he completed his ballot in about five minutes.
Voters in Harrison also faced two local sales‑tax questions, both of which are renewals—one for the county jail and another city question.
Voting Hours
Boone County’s early‑voting site in Harrison is open weekdays from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. through Oct. 30, Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and the final Monday, Nov. 2, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
In Greene County, the Elections Center and Library Center both offer no‑excuse absentee voting, though their weekday hours differ.
