Taos County is making it easier for residents to cast their ballots before Election Day. On Saturday, Oct. 17, the county opened three new early‑voting sites in the communities of El Prado, Peñasco and Questa, each operating from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday, until Oct. 31. The new locations join the existing early‑voting office at the Taos County Courthouse.
New sites and hours
The El Prado Water and Sanitation District office at 1017 Paseo del Pueblo Norte was the first to report activity, receiving 47 ballots by lunchtime on its opening day. The Peñasco Community Center (14136 N.M. 75) and the Questa Village Hall (2500 Old State Road 3) are also open during the same hours, providing voters with convenient, Saturday‑friendly options.
Early‑voting totals
According to the Taos County Clerk’s office, a total of about 3,370 ballots had been cast by Tuesday, Oct. 20. Of those, 2,619 were cast by registered Democrats and 291 by registered Republicans. The county maintains roughly 16,608 registered Democrats and 3,850 registered Republicans, a demographic pattern that historically sees many Republican voters waiting until Election Day to vote.
Other voting opportunities
Early voting continues at the Taos County Courthouse, located at 105 Albright St., from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays through Oct. 30, and on Saturday, Oct. 31. Taos Pueblo members may also vote at the Taos Pueblo Community Center on Saturday, Oct. 24, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. On Election Day, Nov. 3, polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
