Durango officials announced that severe flood conditions on Monday, Nov. 2, required the temporary closure of several non‑essential city facilities. The city’s public notice lists the library, recreation center, City Hall, municipal court, clerk’s office, and community‑development department as closed for the day.
Essential services remain operational, though some experience limited access. Transit will run on a modified schedule, and the ticket window at the Transit Center on 250 W. 8th St. will stay closed. Police services are fully available, but the reception area is closed; residents can call 911 for emergencies or 970‑385‑2900 for non‑emergencies. Public Works continues to provide water and sewer services, but trash and recycling collection will not occur on Monday.
The city also warned that State Highway 172 is closed, leaving the status of airport operations unknown. Updates on the airport and other flood‑related developments will be posted on lpcgov.org as they become available.
City officials emphasized the importance of keeping roadways clear for emergency responders and critical operations. Residents needing city services are encouraged to use the online “Engage” webpage for comments, questions, or suggestions, and to sign up for the “Notify Me” alert system to receive future releases.

What’s next: The city will monitor flood conditions throughout the week and may adjust service closures or reopen non‑essential facilities as conditions improve. Residents should check lpcgov.org for the latest updates and follow any additional guidance from city officials.
