As cooler weather settles over Double Oak, town officials are highlighting three community‑focused events that blend safety, generosity and Thanksgiving tradition. Residents can safely discard hazardous items, support local charities, and enjoy a family‑friendly run, all while strengthening the bonds that make Double Oak a great place to live.
Free Household Hazardous Waste & Shredding – Nov. 7
On Saturday, Nov. 7, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., the Town Hall will host a Household Hazardous Waste & Shredding event. This free service lets Double Oak homeowners bring old paint, chemicals, batteries and other potentially harmful materials for proper disposal, protecting both landfills and local waterways.
In addition, the shredding station will securely destroy sensitive documents, helping residents guard personal information. The event is open to Double Oak residents only; a complete list of accepted and non‑accepted items is available on the town’s website.
Double Oak Women’s Club Annual Fall Charity Auction – Nov. 14
The Double Oak Women’s Club will hold its Annual Fall Charity Auction on Saturday, Nov. 14, beginning at 6:00 p.m. with the live auction kicking off at 6:30 p.m., also at Town Hall. The evening brings neighbors together to raise funds for local charities and community programs.
Local businesses are encouraged to donate gift cards, baskets or branded merchandise, which can be dropped off at Town Hall between Nov. 11 and 13, 5:30‑8:00 p.m. each night. All proceeds go directly to organizations that serve Double Oak and surrounding neighborhoods.
16th Annual Double Oak Turkey Trot – Nov. 26
Thanksgiving morning will feature the 16th Annual Double Oak Turkey Trot on Thursday, Nov. 26. The family‑friendly run or walk winds through the town’s scenic neighborhoods, offering participants of all ages a chance to enjoy fall colors while supporting Dare To Serve, a local charitable cause.
Whether you’re an experienced runner, a casual walker, or a volunteer cheering on participants, the Turkey Trot provides a healthy way to start the holiday and give back to the community.
Seasonal Safety Reminders
As residents clean up yards, the Double Oak Volunteer Fire Department advises checking Denton County’s current burn status before any outdoor burning. Weather can change quickly, and burn restrictions may be in effect to reduce fire risk.
Shorter daylight hours also mean extra caution for pedestrians, joggers and cyclists. Wearing reflective gear and using lights can help motorists see you, while drivers should stay alert for anyone on the road.
Thanksgiving Gratitude
Mayor Johnson closed the announcement by thanking volunteers, first responders, town employees and every resident who contributes to Double Oak’s strong sense of community. From cleaning homes to supporting the auction and Turkey Trot, each act of service helps keep the town safe, vibrant and welcoming.
From our families to yours, the town wishes everyone a safe, enjoyable and Happy Thanksgiving.
