LAS CRUCES — High school athletes from Doña Ana County are set to kick off the New Mexico Activities Association (NMAA) fall championship season on Wednesday, Oct. 28, with several local soccer teams earning top seeds and home playoff games.
Boys’ soccer: Class 4A seeds host opening round
The boys’ Class 4A tournament opens Wednesday with Gadsden, Santa Teresa and Chaparral entering as the second, third and fourth seeds. All three schools will host their first‑round opponents at 2 p.m., giving local fans a chance to see the action on familiar fields.
Six Doña Ana County boys’ teams are slated for the opening round, and four of those will play at home. The quarterfinals follow on Friday, Oct. 30, with semifinals scheduled for Monday, Nov. 2. The state championship game for Class 4A will be played Thursday, Nov. 5, at the University of New Mexico Soccer Complex in Albuquerque.
Girls’ soccer: Organ Mountain seeded No. 2 in Class 5A
Organ Mountain High School enters the Class 5A girls’ bracket as the No. 2 seed and will host No. 15‑seeded Cibola at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 29. The girls’ quarterfinals are set for Saturday, Oct. 31, with semifinals on Tuesday, Nov. 3, and the championship match on Friday, Nov. 6, also at the UNM Soccer Complex.
Both boys’ and girls’ state finals will follow a consistent daily schedule: Class A‑3A at 1 p.m., Class 4A at 3:30 p.m., and Class 5A at 6 p.m.
Football and cross country updates
Severe flooding in northwestern New Mexico forced the NMAA to adjust several postseason dates. Soccer opening rounds were pushed back one day, and football brackets for Classes 2A through 6A will be released on Sunday, Nov. 1, after weather‑delayed regular‑season games are completed.
Southern New Mexico also has representation in the eight‑man football championship bracket. No. 4 Mesilla Valley Christian School earned a first‑round bye and will face the winner of the Oct. 31 opening‑round game between No. 5 Magdalena and No. 12 Cloudcroft. In six‑man football, No. 6 Animas travels to meet No. 3 Roy/Mosquero in a quarterfinal on Oct. 31.
Upcoming cross country and volleyball championships
The state cross country championships will be held Saturday, Nov. 7, at Albuquerque Academy, with races for boys and girls across five classifications beginning at 8:30 a.m. Tickets are $12 for adults and $8 for students, seniors and military personnel; a $17 day pass allows re‑entry.
Volleyball state competition follows Nov. 12‑14 at four venues in the Albuquerque area, using a modified double‑elimination format. Brackets are expected on Sunday, Nov. 8, with day passes priced the same as other championship events.
Ticketing and streaming information
All championship events are ticketed online through GoFan; no cash sales are accepted at venues. Prices remain consistent across sports: $17 for a day pass, $12 for adult admission, and $8 for eligible students, seniors and military personnel. Selected contests, including soccer finals, cross country races and volleyball matches, will be streamed via the NFHS Network, with subscription access required for some events.
Fans can stay up‑to‑date on brackets, schedules and results at NMACT.org, where the NMAA will post live updates throughout each competition day.
