Denton residents can expect a series of roadway and utility upgrades that will improve traffic flow, safety, and infrastructure reliability throughout the city. Below is a status report on eight key projects, organized by their current phase.
Upcoming Projects
Loop 288 Frontage Road Construction – TxDOT plans to add frontage roads with grade separations and a new connector to US 380. The work will extend from I‑35 to US 380 east of Geesling Road. Funding for the billion‑dollar effort has not yet been secured, and TxDOT continues to coordinate with Denton County and the selected contractor to finalize designs and a project timeline.
Ongoing Projects
Oak Street Gas Line Restoration – The restoration of Oak Street, from Carroll Boulevard to Avenue C, is nearing completion after the gas lines were repaired in two segments. Contractor A&D Asphalt is now finishing the road surface work.
Robson Ranch Road Widening – New lanes are being added on Robson Ranch Road between I‑35 and Sagehawk Drive, as well as at the intersection with Gibbs Road and Ed Robison Boulevard. Crews are currently preparing the ground for paving, and some lanes remain closed to accommodate the work.
Bonnie Brae Street Construction – Demolition and infrastructure reconstruction are proceeding on a rolling basis from University Drive to Elm Street. Portions of the corridor will experience full closures for new lane construction, while crews install roadways, sidewalks, traffic signals, and storm‑water infrastructure.
Hickory Creek Road Bridge Installation – A new bridge over the railroad tracks will connect Riverpass Drive to Country Club Road. The area is under a full closure, and crews are currently pouring concrete for the bridge deck.
I‑35E/I‑35W Interchange Reconstruction – Spanning 4.8 miles from North Texas Boulevard to US 77 north of Denton, this project will rebuild the interchange, add frontage roads, and widen the corridor. Ongoing detours remain in place, and October work will include paving, painting retaining walls, and installing overhead signage and lighting.
Completed Projects
Carroll Boulevard Gas Main Relocation – Multiple traffic control plans facilitated the relocation of the gas main along Carroll Boulevard, resulting in lane closures from Pearl Street to Prairie Street. Atmos Energy’s Mid‑Tex division allocated more than 85 % of its capital investment to natural‑gas service projects, according to Public Affairs Manager Travis Buckner.
Neighborhood Utilities and Pavement Replacement – Full closures on streets off Hercules Lane between Redstone Road and Stuart Road allowed Atmos to relocate gas lines, replace water and wastewater lines, and reconstruct curbs, gutters, and concrete driveways. Utility work was finished in August and September, with final paving scheduled for the week of October 12.
These projects reflect the ongoing partnership between the city, TxDOT, and private contractors to modernize Denton’s transportation network. Residents are encouraged to stay informed about detours and lane closures, and to plan alternate routes where necessary.
