Denton Police Department, in partnership with the Federal Bureau of Investigation, issued a press release Monday seeking the public’s help in locating 49‑year‑old Richard Pastor Perez, who is suspected of murdering his estranged wife, 42‑year‑old Marijulin Daiuru Briceño Arrieta.
Timeline of the disappearance
According to the release, Briceño Arrieta’s family reported her missing after she and Perez met around 6:45 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 28, at an apartment in the 1900 block of N. Ruddell Street in Denton. When family members could not reach either individual, they filed a police report citing Perez’s alleged history of abusive behavior.
Investigators found Briceño Arrieta’s vehicle abandoned near the apartment, but Perez’s white 2013 Ford Escape was not located at the scene.
Evidence of travel
Detectives say license plates on the two vehicles had been swapped. When entered into the Flock database, the plates indicated that the vehicle believed to be driven by Perez traveled through Wichita Falls on Hwy 287 around 9 p.m. on Sept. 28, entered the eastern side of the Amarillo area after 1 a.m. on Sept. 29, and returned to the western side of Amarillo at about 10:44 p.m. on Sept. 29.
The Albuquerque Police Department confirmed that the same vehicle was located in Albuquerque on Wednesday, Sept. 30, after video evidence captured it at a local hotel. A man matching Perez’s description was seen exiting the vehicle and abandoning it in the hotel parking lot; no other individuals were observed with him.
Official response and reward
“Based on evidence recovered during the investigation, detectives believe Perez killed Briceño Arrieta and have obtained an arrest warrant for murder,” the Denton PD statement read. “Extensive efforts to locate both Perez and Briceño Arrieta are ongoing, but have been unsuccessful as of Tuesday afternoon.”
Denton County Crime Stoppers is offering a cash reward of up to $2,000 for information leading to Perez’s arrest. Tips can be submitted anonymously by calling 1‑800‑388‑TIPS (8477) or through the organization’s website.
What residents can do
Authorities urge anyone who may have seen the white 2013 Ford Escape, the swapped license plates, or a man matching Perez’s description in the Wichita Falls or Amarillo corridors, or in Albuquerque, to contact law enforcement immediately. Community cooperation is critical to bringing the suspect to justice and providing closure for Briceño Arrieta’s family.
