Democrats Secure Sweeping Wins in Clark County Legislative and County Races

The Clark County Elections Department released its first round of results Tuesday night, confirming a decisive Democratic showing across the county’s legislative districts and a solid performance by incumbent county officials.

Legislative Districts

Voters in the 17th, 18th and 49th Legislative Districts backed Democratic candidates in every race. In the 17th District, Democrat Ben Christly captured 58.14% of the vote (26,789) against Republican incumbent Kevin Waters, who received 41.86% (19,285). City Council Member Diana H. Perez won the second seat with 58.27% (26,882) to Republican incumbent David Stuebe’s 41.73% (19,251).

In the 18th District, Democrat Randi L. Knott earned 54.25% (28,922) over Republican incumbent Stephanie McClintock’s 45.75% (24,393). The second seat went to Democrat Deken Letinich, who secured 55.89% (29,719) against Republican John Ley’s 44.11% (23,457).

The 49th District produced the largest margins. Vancouver City Council Member Kim Harless won the first position with 70.60% (30,170) and incumbent Monica Jurado Stonier retained her seat with 72.53% (30,850). Their Republican opponents, Sarah Mittelman and Derek Thompson, received 29.40% and 27.47% respectively.

Clark County Council Races

All three nonpartisan council contests showed clear leads for the leading candidates. In District 1, incumbent Councilor Glen Yung leads with 64.48% (16,096) over challenger Bryan Shull’s 35.52% (8,866). District 2 remains close, with Councilor Michelle Belkot holding a slim edge at 51.62% (15,801) to John Zingale’s 48.38% (14,811). In District 5, where County Chair Sue Marshall did not run, Troy McCoy leads with 53.77% (19,065) against Peter Silliman’s 46.23% (16,393).

Countywide Offices

Incumbents retained several key county positions. Deputy Auditor Mitchell Kelly won the Auditor race with 56.52% (86,006) over former County Chair Eileen Quiring O’Brien’s 43.48% (66,159). County Clerk Scott G. Weber secured re‑election with 60.12% (87,993) against challenger Rachel Shapiro’s 39.88% (58,361). Assessor Peter Van Nortwick also held his office, earning 72.36% (106,901) to challenger Tyler Thoune’s 27.64% (40,835).

Charter Amendments

Voters considered nine proposed amendments to the Clark County Charter. Eight passed with strong majorities, each receiving at least 60% approval. The sole amendment that failed, Amendment 26, sought to lower the signature threshold for initiatives from 10% to 8% and modify related calculations. Just under 60% of voters rejected this measure.

Turnout

Turnout for the November 3 general election was 169,598 of the 363,192 registered voters, a participation rate of 46.70%. The department will continue to update results as additional precincts are tallied.
