Dallas County, Mo. – On Friday night, the Skyline High School football field became the backdrop for a heartfelt community effort to support Beth Lewis, a local resident diagnosed with stage 4 ovarian cancer. With no health insurance and mounting medical expenses, Lewis relies on the generosity of neighbors to fund her treatment.
Students organize a sweet fundraiser
Lewis’s granddaughter, Raegan, a senior at Skyline High, mobilized classmates, teachers, and local volunteers to create a cinnamon‑roll fundraiser. A secretary at the school volunteered to bake 250 rolls, which were sold to fans attending the high‑school football game.
“This is the second fundraiser we’ve had here at Skyline. They did a cancer night for volleyball, and they did a silent auction. The community is always willing to support anything for a good cause,” Raegan said. “I just have so many people behind us and behind my family right now because it is a hard time for my grandma and all of us. Everyone’s behind us, backing us up. I’m just so thankful to be part of this community.”
Funds go directly to medical costs
All proceeds from the cinnamon‑roll sales will be given to Beth Lewis to help cover chemotherapy, radiation and other necessary treatments. Lewis’s situation highlights the challenges many families face when confronting serious illness without adequate insurance coverage.
Upcoming efforts continue the support
Raegan is not stopping after Friday’s event. She plans to host another fundraiser next week, this time benefiting the Cancer Center in nearby Bolivar, further extending the network of assistance for cancer patients throughout the region.
The outpouring of support at the football game underscores the strength of Dallas County’s tight‑knit community. Residents gathered not only to enjoy the sport but also to demonstrate solidarity with a family in need, embodying the county’s tradition of caring for one another.
Local leaders and school officials praised the initiative, noting that such grassroots efforts complement broader health‑care resources and reinforce the importance of community‑based aid during medical crises.
As the fundraiser proceeds, organizers hope the momentum will inspire additional charitable activities across Dallas County, ensuring that families confronting serious health challenges receive the help they deserve.
