Dallas College announced the addition of its fourth bachelor’s degree program, a Bachelor of Applied Science in Management, designed specifically for working adults, transfer students and associate‑degree holders. The fully online, competency‑based program allows students to progress by demonstrating mastery of material rather than spending a set amount of time in a classroom.
Flexible, affordable pathway
The 120‑credit degree costs $11,880 in tuition for Dallas County residents, with lower rates possible for students who bring applicable college credit. More than 400 students have already enrolled, and over 1,000 prospective learners have expressed interest.
Students begin with two courses and pay a flat‑rate per term under a tuition‑subscription model. After successfully completing a course, they may request the next at no additional cost, enabling rapid advancement for those who can demonstrate competency.
Workforce‑focused curriculum
According to Dr. Shawnda Floyd, Dallas College Provost, “Working adults should not have to choose between keeping their jobs and completing a bachelor’s degree.” The program blends online access with instruction in management, leadership and business, aligning with the skills employers value.
Dr. Darryl Williams, Vice Provost of the School of Business, Hospitality and Global Trade, added that the competency‑based format “recognizes and accelerates learning wherever learning occurs,” providing a personalized path while maintaining academic rigor.
Student success stories
Octavia Kimble, a Dallas ISD employee who returned to college in her late 30s, earned an associate degree in criminal justice before pursuing the new management degree. “I was so excited. This is perfect, and I’m ready for it,” Kimble said. “It will open doors for me. I’m hoping to complete it within 10 months.”
Students who already hold an associate degree can complete the bachelor’s in two years or less, depending on transferred credits and the pace of competency demonstration. The program also offers credit for prior learning, including work experience, industry certifications, professional training or military service, further reducing time and cost.
Growing role in North Texas higher education
Since 2020, Dallas College has added three other bachelor’s programs: Early Childhood Education (2020), Nursing (2024) and Applied Technology in Software Development (Fall 2025). The new Management degree expands the college’s affordable, workforce‑oriented offerings, giving North Texas students a local option for a four‑year degree.
A launch event will be held on Wednesday, October 14, from 1‑3 p.m. at the Richland Campus, featuring remarks from Chancellor Dr. Justin Lonon, faculty and current students.
