Saturday morning brought long lines to Heroes and Villains as music fans waited to buy from more than 100 limited-edition record releases. Shoppers gathered outside the shop at 4533 East Broadway Boulevard, forming a crowd that wrapped around neighboring businesses as employees handed out water and helped keep the mood upbeat while people made their selections.
Record Store Day, a yearly celebration of independently owned brick-and-mortar record shops, drew eager collectors to the store. Inside, customers sifted through stacks of vinyl, hunting for exclusives and rare pressings, while staff worked steadily to serve the steady flow of patrons who had come prepared to shop the special releases of the day.
Over the weekend the 41st annual Tucson Folk Festival returned, running through Sunday across six stages. The multi-day event offers a wide range of performances and activities for folk-music fans, promising a packed schedule from late morning into the evening for attendees of all ages.
Local sports scenes were busy as well: No. 3 Arizona saw its season end with a 66-57 loss to No. 6 SMSU in the quarterfinals of the men’s NIWBT. Nearby, thousands of Arizona fans gathered at Main Gate Square and outside McKale Center to watch and send off the Wildcats for a Final Four matchup, and the University of Arizona held its 2026 pro day inside Casino del Sol Stadium on Wednesday morning.
Community traditions continued on the hillsides, too. Beginning at the base of the “A” Mountain, members of the Los Dorados Orphan League led worshipers up the narrow road to Sentinel Peak for the 59th annual procession, a local observance that draws participants for its long-standing cultural and spiritual significance.
