The Dallas Cowboys and kicker Brandon Aubrey have agreed to a four-year extension worth $28 million, a deal that makes Aubrey the highest-paid kicker in the NFL by average annual value. The contract includes $20 million in guarantees and represents the first time a kicker has received a $7 million yearly average, according to his agent, Todd France.

Aubrey, now 31, followed an unconventional path to the NFL and only began his professional football career at age 28 after switching from soccer. His leg strength and accuracy stand out: he has made six field goals of 60 yards or more, the most in league history, and has converted 112 of 127 attempts for a career accuracy of 88.2%.

Raised in the Dallas area, Aubrey played soccer at Notre Dame and was selected by Toronto FC in the 2017 MLS draft. He later worked as a software engineer in Arlington before his wife encouraged him to pursue kicking full time. He spent two seasons in the USFL and signed with the Cowboys ahead of the 2023 training camp.

On the field, Aubrey has set multiple marks for distance and consistency. He began his NFL career by making his first 35 field-goal attempts without a miss, and he became the first player to make three field goals of at least 55 yards in a single game (against Detroit). He was also the first to convert three kicks of 60 yards or more in one season and drilled a franchise-record 65-yarder against Cleveland in 2024, three yards shy of the NFL’s longest 68-yard kick recorded last season.

With this deal, Aubrey moves past other top-paid specialists: Houston’s Ka’imi Fairbairn has an average annual value of $6.5 million on his contract, and Kansas City’s Harrison Butker is at about $6.4 million. The extension locks in Aubrey’s place in Dallas and provides long-term security after he entered the offseason as a restricted free agent.
