Colorado Springs, CO – On Wednesday, the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) partnered with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) to serve search warrants at seven local businesses suspected of distributing THC and psilocybin products without the required licenses. The operation targeted five Speedys Smoke Shop locations and two Los Compantes Liquor Store locations.
Investigation background
The probe began in May 2025 after CSPD received a tip from a shipping company about suspicious packaging addressed to Speedys Smoke Shop at 3960 Airport Road. Metro Task Force investigators later recovered more than 200 pounds of THC and psilocybin products linked to the stores.
Allegations of sales to minors
According to CSPD spokesperson Ira Cronin, investigators observed a 16‑year‑old juvenile working behind the counter at one of the Speedys locations and selling the products to other minors. “If juveniles can get their hands on it or find places that will sell it to them, they’re going to take advantage of that,” Cronin said.
KRDO13 contacted the store owner, who identified the teenage worker as her daughter and explained that the youth was covering a shift for a sick employee. The owner declined to comment further on the allegations.
Seizures and next steps
Police seized large quantities of THC and psilocybin products, including 7‑OH, as well as cash. “We seized a lot of evidence today,” Cronin noted. “It will take us a few days to really tally it up.” No arrests have been made yet, but the investigation remains ongoing and could result in charges.
The business owners responded via text, stating, “We’re a serious business and are working/cooperating to resolve this matter and to have a better understanding of what rules apply to what type of license.”
Community impact
This raid underscores CSPD’s commitment to protecting Colorado Springs youth from unregulated psychoactive substances. The department’s Metro Task Force continues to monitor the situation and will update the public as the case develops.
Residents are encouraged to report any suspicious activity related to the sale of controlled substances. For more information on local drug enforcement efforts, visit the CSPD website or follow their official social media channels.
