College of Southern Nevada to Open East Las Vegas Training Center for Workforce Development

The College of Southern Nevada (CSN) is moving forward with a new training campus on the east side of the Las Vegas valley. Officials say the project will bring additional educational and workforce‑training resources directly to a community that faces high unemployment and low median income.

Local impact highlighted by a single‑parent graduate

Kenya Mills, a CSN graduate who lives and works on the east side, described how the college’s community‑health‑worker program opened career paths she had never considered. “Being a single parent and still obtaining some type of career path is definitely a challenge,” Mills said, adding that the program helped her see new opportunities.

College aims to serve underserved residents

Stavan Corbett, executive director of CSN’s Division of Workforce, explained that the east‑side campus is intended to reach residents who encounter economic barriers to education. “We recognize that a lot of community members, especially from lower‑economic communities, are not represented as well in health sciences, advanced manufacturing, construction trades, and computer information technology,” Corbett said. The new site will therefore focus on those high‑need fields.

The campus is slated for the former parking lot of the Desert Pines Golf Course and is expected to open in late 2027 or early 2028. While specific programs are still being finalized, possibilities include construction‑focused certifications, English‑language courses, and other vocational training that aligns with local labor‑market needs.

Building on prior success

CSN’s West Side Education and Training Center was launched first because that area showed the highest unemployment and lowest median income in the valley. The east‑side project follows the same data‑driven approach, targeting the region with the greatest need for job‑creation resources.

Corbett noted that 70 % of students who complete a CSN program secure employment afterward, underscoring the college’s role as a pathway to stable, family‑supporting careers.

What residents can expect

Local families can look forward to a campus that offers flexible scheduling, affordable tuition, and financial‑aid options. For single parents like Mills, the proximity of the facility means less time spent commuting and more time available for childcare and work responsibilities.

Community leaders and faith‑based organizations have expressed support for the project, seeing it as a concrete step toward strengthening families and expanding economic opportunity in the east valley.

How to learn more

Prospective students can explore current CSN courses and financial‑assistance information on the college’s website at csn.edu. The college encourages residents to stay informed about upcoming program offerings as the new campus moves toward its opening date.
