The Coliseum Museum in Oregon, Illinois, is proud to present “Moments in Monochrome,” a new art exhibit that showcases the talents of 43 artists from Illinois, Iowa and Wisconsin. The exhibit opens now and will remain on view through November 14, offering local families and art lovers a chance to experience a diverse collection of black‑and‑white works.
What visitors will see
In total, the exhibit includes 82 individual pieces that span both two‑dimensional and three‑dimensional media. Artists employ a wide range of materials, including acrylic, ceramics, charcoal, glass, graphite pencil, India ink, marble, mixed media, oil, pastel, photography, steel, watercolor and wood. The variety of mediums demonstrates how each creator interprets the theme of monochrome in a distinct way, from delicate charcoal sketches to striking steel sculptures.
Judging and awards
The artwork will be evaluated by Heather Shore, an award‑winning artist and art educator who works in Northern Illinois. Shore’s experience in both creating and teaching art brings a knowledgeable perspective to the judging process. An awards reception is scheduled for October 9, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., at the museum. Attendees will have the opportunity to meet the artists, hear remarks from Shore, and celebrate the creativity on display.
Community impact
“Moments in Monochrome” reflects the vibrant artistic community that thrives across the tri‑state area. By featuring creators from three neighboring states, the exhibit underscores regional collaboration and provides a platform for emerging and established artists alike. The museum hopes the show will inspire local students, families, and visitors to explore the power of visual expression without the distraction of color.
