Kansas City – In a brief update after Friday’s practice, head coach Andy Reid announced that the Kansas City Chiefs will be without two key players for Sunday’s game against the Los Angeles Chargers.
Rice ruled out with hamstring strain
Wide receiver Rashee Rice suffered a hamstring strain in the final game before the team’s bye week, a loss to the Las Vegas Raiders two weeks ago. Although he was seen jogging in sweats during the open portion of practice, Reid said the injury still keeps him on the sidelines.
“You guys saw him. He’s out there, wanting to jump in on everything,” Reid said. “He’s a pretty fast healer.”
Simmons still recovering from back injury
First‑round draft pick left tackle Josh Simmons also will not suit up. Simmons missed nearly two months after being diagnosed with a bulging disc in his lower back. While he returned to the facility this week, he did not participate in the team drills that Reid highlighted as part of his long‑term recovery plan.
“He was excited to be out there, to be back with the guys, you know, on the field instead of the meeting room,” Reid added.
Depth players step up
With Rice unavailable, the Chiefs’ active receiver list now includes Xavier Worthy, Nikko Remigio, Jalen Royals and Cyrus Allen. The practice squad also offers Justin Watson, Omari Evans and Andrew Armstrong as potential call‑ups.
Reid praised the readiness of those players: “They’re excited to get in there if they get a chance.”
Offensive line adjustments
On the line, undrafted rookie Kahlil Benson will continue at left tackle, while Jaylon Moore remains at right tackle. Guard Kingsley Suamataia is slated to return after sitting out the previous game due to a coaching decision, though Reid declined to discuss the reasoning behind that benching.
The Chiefs will rely on this adjusted lineup as they aim to maintain their unbeaten streak heading into the Chargers matchup.
Looking ahead
Kansas City’s next challenge will test the depth and resilience of a roster that has already navigated injuries and a bye week. Fans can expect a competitive effort from the backup receivers and the rookie linemen as the team seeks to keep its winning momentum.
