With the first chill of autumn arriving across Washoe County, Catholic Charities of Northern Nevada is turning to the community for help. The nonprofit, which operates two St. Vincent’s Thrift Stores in Reno and Sparks, is asking residents to empty their closets of gently used coats, jackets, boots, shoes and other fall essentials so that families struggling to make ends meet can stay warm.
How donations are collected
Donors can drop off items daily between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. at either of the thrift locations:
- St. Vincent’s Thrift Shop – 500 East Fourth Street, Reno
- St. Vincent’s Super Thrift – 190 E. Glendale Avenue, Sparks
In addition, Catholic Charities operates several satellite drop‑off centers throughout the area, all open the same hours. A full list of locations is available on the organization’s donation page.
Why the request matters
“As the weather turns colder, having access to warm clothing and sturdy shoes becomes even more important for individuals and families struggling to make ends meet,” said Marie Baxter, CEO of Catholic Charities of Northern Nevada. “Donating a gently used coat, pair of boots, or warm clothing is a simple way to make a meaningful difference. Every donation to our St. Vincent’s Thrift Stores helps provide affordable essentials while supporting our mission of bringing hope and stability to vulnerable individuals and families throughout Northern Nevada.”
The thrift stores not only supply affordable clothing to shoppers, they also generate revenue that funds the agency’s broader poverty‑assistance programs. Those programs include serving roughly 1,400 hot meals each day through the St. Vincent’s Dining Room, operating a food pantry and providing employment opportunities for program residents.
Store hours for shoppers
Those who need affordable clothing can visit the thrift shops during the following hours:
- St. Vincent’s Thrift Shop (Reno): Monday‑Saturday 9 a.m.–6 p.m., Sunday 10 a.m.–6 p.m.
- St. Vincent’s Super Thrift (Sparks): Monday‑Saturday 9 a.m.–7 p.m., Sunday 10 a.m.–6 p.m.
Both locations welcome daily donations and encourage families, churches, schools and local businesses to spread the word.
Supporting a faith‑based mission
Catholic Charities of Northern Nevada is a faith‑based organization rooted in the Christian tradition of caring for the poor and vulnerable. By partnering with local churches, civic groups and families, the agency seeks to embody the biblical call to clothe the needy and provide for those without means.
