CAIR Action Endorsed Candidates Secure Numerous Texas Wins in 2026 Election

Unofficial election returns show that candidates fully endorsed by CAIR Action captured a broad slate of Texas offices in the 2026 election cycle. The organization, a 501(c)(4) advocacy group separate from the charitable CAIR, listed 37 full endorsements that resulted in victories, two of which were unopposed.

Statewide Offices

Among the top‑level races, the preferred selections – those the group rates as aligned but not fully endorsed – included Democrat State Rep. Gina Hinojosa, who defeated Governor Greg Abbott, State Rep. James Talarico, who beat Attorney General Ken Paxton for the U.S. Senate seat, and State Sen. Nathan Johnson, who won the attorney general race. Fully endorsed Democrat Rep. Vikki Goodwin secured the lieutenant‑governor position.

Other Constitutional Offices

Preferred candidates also won the comptroller, land commissioner, agriculture commissioner and a seat on the Texas Railroad Commission. Four Texas Supreme Court and three Court of Criminal Appeals races were claimed by preferred selections. Fully endorsed candidates Melissa Marie Morris, Monica Rawlins and Rabeea Collier won district judgeships, while Monica Singh, Shannon Baldwin and Toria Finch secured county court seats in Harris County.

Legislative and Local Races

In the U.S. House, fully endorsed Frederick D. Haynes III captured District 30. On the county level, Alisa Simmons, a fully endorsed candidate, defeated Tarrant County Judge Tim O’Hare by 91,251 votes, gaining a seat on the Commissioners Court that sets tax rates and budgets. In Dallas County, preferred selections Amber Givens and Tiffany Burks won district‑attorney races, giving them authority over prosecutions.

Five State Board of Education candidates backed by CAIR Action were victorious, including fully endorsed Tiffany Clark. Dana Van de Walker narrowly lost to Audrey Young by 564 votes for another board seat. The board oversees curriculum standards and instructional materials across Texas schools.

School‑District Trustees

Fully endorsed Ayaan Moledina won a Round Rock ISD trustee seat (Place 3), while preferred selection Rachel Weatherington secured a Keller ISD trustee position (Place 4). These trustees help shape district budgets and policy decisions.

Close Races and Losses

Some endorsed candidates fell short. Full endorsements for Chelsey Hockett, Steven Shook and Orlando Lopez resulted in losses, and close contests saw Brittany Black and Eliz Markowitz trailing by 134 votes, and Stefanie Bord leading by 265 votes. Dana Van de Walker’s narrow defeat also remains unofficial.

CAIR Action’s Endorsement Process

The organization’s guide listed 369 recommendations as of October 22, comprising 59 full endorsements, four joint endorsements and 306 preferred selections. Full endorsements indicate stronger alignment with CAIR Action’s priorities, while preferred selections may differ on some issues.

CAIR Action’s stated priorities include immigration, law‑enforcement and foreign‑policy positions. For example, Rep. Talarico’s platform opposes weapons sales to the Israeli government under Benjamin Netanyahu while supporting Israel’s Iron Dome and a disarmament of Hamas. The group stresses that overlap on individual issues does not constitute a formal agreement.

Transparency and Funding

When asked for details, CAIR Action declined to disclose which Texas candidates participated in its questionnaire or its budget, stating, “We don’t release internal questionnaires, evaluation materials or individual candidate responses.” The group also denied exchanging endorsements for commitments and affirmed that it made no direct contributions, provided no campaign volunteers, and did not run candidate‑directed advertisements.

National Context

CAIR and CAIR Action announced 97 Muslim electoral victories nationwide on November 5, with 11 Texas Muslim candidates listed – five marked as wins, four leading, and two losing. This tracker counts Muslim candidates as a separate category from those receiving CAIR Action recommendations.

Governor Abbott’s 2025 proclamation designated CAIR and the Muslim Brotherhood as foreign terrorist and transnational criminal organizations, though it did not name CAIR Action specifically. CAIR’s Texas chapters have challenged that proclamation, and Attorney General Paxton’s February lawsuit seeks to halt CAIR’s operations in the state.
