ASHWAUBENON — The 38th annual Give‑A‑Kid‑A‑Book campaign opened Wednesday at the brand‑new Brown County Pamperin Family Branch Library. Honorary literacy ambassador Bre LaFleur, wife of Green Bay Packers head coach Matt LaFleur, helped rally donors and raise awareness for the program that places new, unwrapped books in the hands of children in need.
How the community can help
Organizers outlined several ways residents can contribute:
- Purchase titles from the Friends’ Amazon Wish List.
- Buy books at Lion’s Mouth Bookstore, 211 N. Washington Street in downtown Green Bay.
- Donate Barnes & Noble purchases during the in‑store Book Fair on Saturday, November 21, 2025, from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m., or online November 21‑26 using code 12946810; a percentage of sales will benefit the campaign.
- Drop off donations in collection boxes located at Nicolet National Bank branches throughout the greater Green Bay area, all Brown County libraries and other community sites through Dec. 10.
- Send financial contributions payable to “Friends of the Brown County Library: GAKAB” to 515 Pine St., Green Bay, WI 54301, or donate online.
Distribution and impact
Books will be distributed in December in partnership with the Green Bay Salvation Army Holiday Assistance program. Last year the campaign delivered new books to more than 6,200 disadvantaged children across Brown County, ranging from infants to high‑school seniors.
Why the program matters
Reading proficiency is a cornerstone of academic success and lifelong learning. By providing age‑appropriate books to families facing financial hardship, the campaign supports parents’ desire to nurture their children’s education while reinforcing the community’s commitment to strong families and faith‑based values.
Getting involved
Community leaders encourage anyone who can spare a few minutes or a modest donation to participate. “When we come together to fill a child’s hands with a book, we’re investing in the next generation of responsible, God‑loving citizens,” said a library spokesperson. The campaign runs through Dec. 10, with final distribution slated for the holiday season.
