Broken Arrow Schools Names Next Superintendent
The Broken Arrow Board of Education has unanimously selected longtime district leader Steve Dunn as the next superintendent of Broken Arrow Public Schools, ensuring a smooth leadership transition for one of Oklahoma’s largest school districts.
Dunn will officially assume the superintendent’s role for the 2027–28 school year following the planned retirement of current Superintendent Chuck Perry, who will continue serving throughout the 2026–27 school year.
“After thoughtful consideration, the Board is confident we have selected the right leader for Broken Arrow Public Schools,” said Board President Steve Allen. “Steve Dunn is a proven leader who understands our district, believes in our mission, and has earned the trust and respect of our employees, students and community. We are excited to partner with him as we continue building on the strong foundation that has been established.”
Current Superintendent Chuck Perry congratulated Dunn and said he supports the board’s decision.
“I could not be more pleased with the Board’s decision,” Perry said. “Steve understands what makes Broken Arrow Public Schools special. He believes in our people, values our traditions and shares a deep commitment to ensuring every student has the opportunity to succeed. Our district is in great hands and I know it will continue to thrive under Steve’s leadership.”
A Familiar Leader for Broken Arrow
Rather than looking outside the district, the Board of Education chose a leader who already knows Broken Arrow Public Schools from the inside.
Dunn has spent more than 15 years serving students, families and staff in a variety of leadership positions, including:
- Teacher
- Coach
- Assistant Principal
- Assistant Director of Athletics
- Executive Director of Athletics
- Associate Superintendent
Before returning to Broken Arrow in 2018, Dunn also gained administrative experience while serving in Owasso Public Schools.
Board Expresses Confidence
School Board President Steve Allen said the decision followed a thoughtful selection process and reflected the Board’s confidence in Dunn’s ability to lead the district into its next chapter.
According to the district, board members believe Dunn understands Broken Arrow’s mission, values its traditions and has earned the trust of employees, students and families throughout the community.
Building on a Strong Foundation
Current Superintendent Chuck Perry also voiced his support for Dunn’s appointment, saying he believes the district is well-positioned for continued success under his leadership.
Perry announced earlier this year that he plans to retire after the upcoming school year, allowing nearly a full year for an orderly transition before Dunn officially takes over.
Dunn Looks Ahead
Dunn called his appointment “an incredible honor” and expressed gratitude to the Board of Education for the opportunity to lead the district.
He said he looks forward to working alongside teachers, support staff, administrators, parents and the community to continue providing outstanding educational opportunities for every student.
Broken Arrow Public Schools serves more than 20,000 students, making it one of the largest public school districts in Oklahoma.
