Halloween falls on Saturday this year, meaning more families, friends and young people will be out on the streets of Bismarck. Recognizing the increased activity, the Bismarck Police Department and Metro Area Ambulance are stepping up their readiness to protect the community.
Increased police presence
The Bismarck Police Department announced that additional officers will be on patrol throughout the weekend. Community Engagement Officer Caity Horne explained that officers will be positioned wherever they are needed – at bars, restaurants, and even residential neighborhoods. “If someone calls about a house party and something happens, we can be in the area quickly,” Horne said.
Ambulance services stay on standby
Metro Area Ambulance also emphasized that its staff is always prepared for emergencies, and no extra precautions are required beyond their standard readiness. Deputy Chief of Operations Joshua Davis noted that past Halloweens have generated higher call volumes, but the team is equipped to respond promptly. “When Halloween lands on a weekend, there are more people out, more kids walking, and that creates additional safety concerns,” Davis said.
Safety tips for residents
Both agencies stress the importance of planning a safe way home, especially for anyone who may be drinking. They recommend using a sober friend, a designated driver, or a rideshare app to avoid unnecessary trips to the hospital or police precinct.
Residents are also encouraged to keep an eye on younger children, ensure costumes are visible in low light, and stay aware of their surroundings. By working together, the community can enjoy the festivities while minimizing risks.
Community cooperation
The message from Bismarck’s public‑safety officials is clear: a coordinated effort between law enforcement, emergency medical services, and responsible citizens will help keep the Halloween weekend safe and enjoyable for everyone. The city’s proactive approach reflects its commitment to protecting families and upholding the values that make Bismarck a strong, close‑knit community.
