To mark Lung Cancer Awareness Month, Baptist Health is opening appointment slots for low‑dose computed tomography (CT) lung cancer screenings on Saturday, November 14, from 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The screenings are available at four of the system’s imaging centers across Arkansas.
Where and when
The four sites offering the service are:
- Baptist Health Imaging Center‑Kanis – 9101 Kanis Road, Suite 100, Little Rock, AR 72205

Patients should obtain a referral from their primary‑care provider. Referrals can be faxed to (501) 850‑0488.
Who should be screened
The American Lung Association recommends annual low‑dose CT screening for adults ages 50 to 77 who have a 20‑pack‑year smoking history. The recommendation also includes current smokers and those who have quit within the past 15 years.
Screening with low‑dose CT has been shown to reduce lung cancer mortality by up to 20 percent for high‑risk individuals, making early detection a critical tool in the fight against this disease.
Why Arkansas needs it
Arkansas ranks among the nation’s worst states for several lung‑cancer metrics, including higher incidence rates, lower survival rates and fewer surgical treatments compared with other states, according to the American Lung Association. By offering these free screenings, Baptist Health hopes to improve early‑detection rates and give Arkansans a better chance at successful treatment.
Insurance and cost
Before requesting a referral, patients are encouraged to verify coverage with their insurance providers. Baptist Health officials note that many insurers cover the preventive screening, but confirmation is advised to avoid unexpected costs.
Community impact
Providing accessible, low‑dose CT scans in multiple locations underscores Baptist Health’s commitment to community health and preventive care. The initiative aligns with broader public‑health goals to reduce the burden of lung cancer in Arkansas and to empower residents to take proactive steps for their wellbeing.
