Arlington ISD is calling on community members to help ensure that every student has a nutritious meal over the weekend. Through Nov. 13, donations of individually packaged, non‑expired food items can be dropped off at the district’s Professional Development Center (1111 W. Arbrook) to support NEW DAY Arlington’s weekend meal‑bag program.
How the program works
NEW DAY Arlington partners with the school district to combat weekend hunger. Volunteers purchase, pack and deliver meal bags to campuses, where school counselors distribute them to students who need extra support. Each bag contains easy‑to‑prepare items such as ravioli cups, ramen noodles, meat sticks, granola bars, cereal cups, applesauce cups and crackers. At roughly $5 per bag, every donation directly funds a child’s basic need.
Impact on students and families
“For some students, these meal bags provide their only food for the weekend,” said Arlington ISD Professional Learning Specialist Nikki Thompson. She added that parents have told the district they would struggle to feed their families without the bags. By meeting this essential need, the program helps students arrive on Monday ready to focus on learning, growing and reaching their full potential.
How to donate
Community members may contribute individually packaged, non‑expired items such as beef sticks, canned ravioli, ramen noodle packets, granola bars, single‑serve cereal, applesauce cups and crackers. Peanut and peanut‑butter products are not accepted. All donations should be placed at the Professional Development Center by Nov. 13.
Recognition and continued partnership
Last year Arlington ISD honored NEW DAY Arlington with the Community Partner Award for its dedication to supporting local students and families beyond the classroom. The district’s ongoing collaboration underscores a shared commitment to meeting students’ basic needs and fostering a stronger, more resilient community.
