Texarkana, Texas – Arkansas Lieutenant Governor Leslie Rutledge visited Texarkana on Oct. 20, joining a roundtable hosted by the Texarkana USA Regional Chamber of Commerce. The gathering brought together a small group of chamber partners and community leaders to discuss the pressing issues that affect both Southwest Arkansas and the greater Texarkana region.
Roundtable focuses on families and the workforce
The discussion centered on three key priorities: expanding access to quality childcare, strengthening workforce development, and fostering economic growth. Participants examined the challenges facing employers, working families, and local communities, and explored practical solutions that can be implemented through cooperation between state and local leaders.
“Texarkana plays a vital role in Arkansas’ economic future, and I appreciate the opportunity to hear directly from local business and community leaders about the issues that matter most to this region,” Rutledge said. “From strengthening our workforce and expanding access to quality childcare, to creating new opportunities for economic growth, collaboration between state and local leaders is essential.”
Tour of the Jim E. Yates Terminal
After the roundtable, Rutledge toured the Jim E. Yates Terminal at Texarkana Regional Airport. She praised city officials and the Airport Authority for their vision and commitment to improving regional infrastructure.
“The Texarkana Regional Airport is a tremendous example of what can be accomplished through vision, collaboration and a commitment to the future,” Rutledge said. “Investments like these help position communities for continued growth, attract new opportunities and strengthen the economic vitality of our state.”
Local leaders welcome the engagement
Robin Hickerson, president and CEO of the chamber, expressed gratitude for Rutledge’s visit and her willingness to engage on issues that affect families and businesses.
“We are grateful for Lt. Gov. Rutledge’s continued interest in our region and her commitment to understanding the opportunities and challenges facing our businesses and families,” Hickerson said. “These conversations reinforce the importance of strong relationships between state and local leadership as we work together to build a stronger future for Texarkana.”
The roundtable and airport tour underscore the administration’s focus on practical, faith‑grounded solutions that support traditional families and promote individual liberty through economic opportunity. By addressing childcare and workforce training, the state aims to give parents the freedom to provide for their families while preserving the values that make the region strong.
Both Arkansas officials and Texarkana community leaders see the partnership as a model for other border regions seeking to boost jobs, improve infrastructure, and ensure that families have the resources they need to thrive.
