The Argyle Independent School District Board of Trustees met on Monday to begin rebuilding its leadership after a wave of resignations left two seats empty. Trustees Rich McDowell, Dr. Leona McDade and Frank Dixon were approved as the board’s new president, vice president and secretary, respectively.
New Leadership, Same Mission
McDowell emphasized that the board’s primary responsibility is to support students and maintain Argyle ISD’s reputation as one of Texas’ finest districts. “While public discussion and healthy debate are part of the governance process, it is important that we now refocus our collective energy on the work we were elected and entrusted to do – supporting the success of our students and ensuring Argyle ISD continues to be one of the finest school districts in Texas,” he said.
He highlighted recent achievements, including strong performances by the football team, band, cross‑country squads and academic programs. “Everyday, students are achieving academic success, teachers are inspiring future leaders, staff members are serving with dedication and families are investing their time, talent and resources to make this district exceptional,” McDowell added.
Filling Vacancies and Continuing Growth
The board’s agenda also called for discussion of how to fill the two vacant trustee seats and the open superintendent position. While no decision was made at this meeting, the board indicated that options include appointing replacements, as it did previously when former trustee Sam Slaton was appointed in July after Josh Westrom’s resignation, or placing the seats up for election so voters can decide.
Community members will have to wait until the next board meeting on Monday, Nov. 16, for any updates on these vacancies.
Commitment to the Collaborative Vision
McDowell reaffirmed the district’s Collaborative Vision, a strategic plan developed with input from educators, staff and families to guide Argyle ISD through its rapid expansion. “I remain committed to responsible stewardship of taxpayers’ resources and to putting students first on every decision we make,” he said. “Our district continues to grow, our communities continue to attract remarkable families, and our students continue to achieve extraordinary things. The future of Argyle ISD is bright, but that future requires collaboration, trust, respect and a willingness to work together, even when we disagree.”
Looking Ahead
As Argyle ISD navigates leadership changes, the board’s focus remains on delivering an exceptional educational experience for every student. The district’s continued emphasis on academic excellence, extracurricular success and community involvement aims to sustain its reputation as a top‑performing school system in Denton County.
