The annual Breakthrough Type 1 Diabetes (T1D) walk is back in Tuscaloosa on Sunday, November 1, offering families, friends and community members a chance to support research aimed at curing the disease. The event runs from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Verner Elementary School, located at 2701 Northridge Road.
Registration is free and open to anyone who wishes to join. Participants can sign up as individuals or form fundraising teams, with all proceeds directed to the national T1D research effort. The walk’s organizers include James Whitehead as presenter, and a leadership team featuring Brittany and Brant Gentry, Michelle and Hans Crouse, Casey Rice, Susanna Whitehead and Fran Powe.
What to Expect
Walkers will enjoy a festive afternoon that includes snacks and a live DJ to keep spirits high. Two special features highlight the personal stories behind the cause. The “Parade of Champions” honors participants living with Type 1 diabetes, recognizing them by the number of years they have managed the condition. Along the route, a designated “Breakthrough Mile” displays signs paying tribute to individuals and families affected by T1D, underscoring the community’s collective commitment.
