El Paso residents will have a chance to experience a full day of military aviation and ground displays at the Amigo Airsho, scheduled for Oct. 24 and Oct. 25 at Biggs Army Airfield on Fort Bliss. The event, highlighted by the U.S. Navy Blue Angels, is a centerpiece of the show and marks the team’s 80th anniversary year, according to the El Paso Chamber’s Facebook post reported by KFOX14/CBS4.
KVIA notes that the airshow will also showcase a U.S. Air Force F‑22 Raptor flying just below supersonic speed, and the U.S. Army Black Knights Parachute Team performing sky‑diving jumps. Attendees can explore the Fort Bliss Army Display, which offers up‑close looks at military vehicles, equipment and technology, as well as tank demonstrations and a chance to climb into the cockpit of the legendary jet featured in the film “Top Gun.”
“It is going to be loud and it is going to be exciting, and we’re going to show you that air power,” said Kellie Hudson, the air show’s air boss, in an interview with KVIA’s ABC‑7. Hudson added that inviting civilians onto a military installation helps bring the community together, especially given Fort Bliss’s proximity to the Mexico border and neighboring cities such as Las Cruces.
In a visual tribute to the Blue Angels’ return, the Star on the Mountain was illuminated blue on Friday night, KFOX14 reported. The lighting was intended to welcome the flight demonstration team back to El Paso, underscoring the city’s deep military roots.
General admission ticket holders should enter through the Old Ironside Gate on Old Ironsides Avenue and park in the Blue or Red Lot. ADA‑accessible parking is available via the MSG Peña Gate, with the Purple Lot adjacent to the Centennial Banquet & Conference Center (11199 Sgt. E. Churchill St.). Guests using rideshare services such as Uber or Lyft are also directed to this entrance. All attendees will be shuttled around the base and must bring a government‑issued ID, KVIA advises.
What’s next: The Blue Angels are slated to perform on both days of the airshow, with additional flight demonstrations and ground activities continuing throughout the weekend. Residents can follow updates on the official Amigo Airsho website and the El Paso Chamber’s social media channels for any schedule changes or additional community events tied to the show.
