Flower Mound residents will have a chance to enjoy a light‑hearted poker tournament while supporting a vital cause. The American Heart Association (AHA) is organizing a charity event at Circle R Ranch on Friday, Nov. 6, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Event details and purpose
Organizer Theo Aquino, a longtime southern Denton County resident, says the tournament is designed to be fun rather than high‑stakes, with a $250 entry fee for individuals. All proceeds will be directed to AHA’s life‑saving programs, including the recent deployment of automated external defibrillators (AEDs) to Fort Worth police vehicles and ongoing discussions with the town of Flower Mound about additional health‑related funding.
In addition to the poker tables staffed by professional dealers, attendees will enjoy a buffet featuring brisket and sausage, a cash bar, and a chance to win prizes for top performance.
Health education component
True to its mission, the AHA will incorporate health education into the evening. Participants can learn hands‑only CPR from certified instructors, a skill that Aquino says has already saved lives in previous community events. “One of our chief goals is to increase awareness of hands‑only CPR,” he explained. “We’ve had events where people, even kids, learn CPR and end up using it to save someone’s life the next day.”
Community impact
The fundraiser also seeks business sponsors, offering local companies visibility at the event while helping fund AHA initiatives. “We can’t do those kinds of things without donations,” Aquino noted. “And they go directly towards something local, so it’s an opportunity to be a great community member.”
Beyond the tournament, the AHA continues its broader health work in the area, providing portable blood‑pressure monitors to local sites and supporting food‑bank efforts. The organization’s research on heart‑disease prevention complements these hands‑on community projects.
How to participate
Individuals and businesses interested in registering can scan the QR code on the event poster or visit the AHA’s website for more information. The event promises a blend of entertainment, community spirit and life‑saving education, reinforcing Flower Mound’s commitment to health and well‑being.
