Ambridge Area Middle School in Beaver County celebrated a proud moment on Thursday when longtime teacher Amy Braund was named WTAE Teacher of the Month. The honor came after students submitted eight heartfelt nomination letters praising her dedication, care, and leadership both inside and outside the classroom.
Students and staff laud Braund’s impact
During the surprise announcement in the school auditorium, eighth‑grader Mackenzie Curry said, “She always helps students out, she’s a great soccer coach, a great leader, she just helps everybody.” The applause that followed reflected the deep respect Braund has earned from more than 500 students gathered for the ceremony.
WTAE anchor Janelle Hall presented the award, and Braund expressed her gratitude, noting, “I watch WTAE every day. I love it in the morning, in the afternoon, evening, whenever I’m home. This is such an incredible honor and such a shock.” She added that the recognition meant the most because it came from the very students she serves.
Rooted in the community
Born and raised in the area, Braund said, “I love this school. I say it all the time. I’m a hometown girl, I grew up here, I live here, my daughter graduated from here, so I have Bridger pride through and through. Everything I do, I do it for the kids.” Her background in journalism and magazine writing informs her approach to teaching, bringing a love of life, learning, and writing into every lesson.
Principal David DiCaprio praised Braund’s commitment, stating, “She’s absolutely deserving of this. She’s a great teacher. She always cares about the students. She goes above and beyond, not only in school but out of school with activities and the club she runs, the newspaper. She coaches soccer. She does it all. I’m just so thankful to have her.” Superintendent Dr. Joseph Pasquerilla echoed the sentiment, noting that Braund’s energy “thrives right in through her kids” and that engagement is key to her classroom success.
Recognition includes $1,000 grant
As part of the award, Braund received a $1,000 grant from Closets by Design to be used on the educational website DonorsChoose.org. “It is truly humbling and absolutely incredible, and it will be at the top of my list of one of the best moments of my life. To be recognized by the students that I love is just phenomenal, fabulous,” Braund said.
Pete Donina of Closets by Design added, “Every month, we tell these incredible stories and meet incredible people that don’t get recognized like they should.” Braund concluded, “This is just a great school, and everyone needs to know it.”
Why the award matters
The Teacher of the Month program highlights educators who embody the values of faith, family, and individual liberty by nurturing the next generation with integrity and compassion. Braund’s example underscores the importance of strong, locally rooted teachers who serve as mentors, coaches, and community leaders.
For parents and community members, the recognition serves as a reminder that investing in quality education and supporting dedicated teachers strengthens the fabric of the neighborhood. As Braund continues to lead the school newspaper, coach soccer, and inspire her students, her work reflects the traditional family values and faith‑centered commitment that many families in Beaver County hold dear.
