Residents and commuters in Addison should prepare for temporary traffic changes this November as the town moves forward with two key public‑works projects: a pedestrian bridge on Midway Road and a major upgrade to the southeast entrance of Celestial Park.
Midway Road closure
Starting at 9 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 6, Midway Road will be fully closed between Belt Line Road and Lindbergh Drive. The closure will remain in effect through 5 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 9 while crews install a new pedestrian bridge span across the roadway. The town urges drivers to plan alternate routes and allow extra travel time during this period.
After the full closure, a second phase will begin on Nov. 9 and run through Nov. 13. During this phase, two southbound lanes at Wheeler Bridge will be closed each day from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The lane closures will alternate between the right‑hand lanes and the left‑hand lanes as bridge decking is installed. Motorists are asked to stay alert for changing traffic patterns and follow posted signage.
Celestial Park southeast entrance improvements
In a separate effort to enhance pedestrian safety and accessibility, Addison will temporarily close the southeast entrance to Celestial Park beginning the week of Nov. 9. Construction is expected to continue through March 2027, weather permitting.
The project will replace the existing steep, erosion‑prone path with natural‑stone stairs and landings. A new ramp that meets the Americans with Disabilities Act will be built, along with a limestone retaining wall designed to reduce erosion during heavy rain. Additional upgrades include improved lighting along the lawn walking path, relocation of an existing drinking fountain, and new landscaping to preserve the park’s natural setting.
Although the southeast entrance will be closed, the remainder of Celestial Park will stay open. Visitors can continue to access the park through the northeast entrance.
How to stay informed
The town will post construction updates on its website every two weeks. Residents can also receive alerts directly on their phones by texting “Celestial” to 888‑777.
Both projects are slated to begin in early November. The Midway Road restrictions are expected to end on Nov. 13, while the Celestial Park entrance improvements will extend into the spring of 2027.
These infrastructure enhancements reflect Addison’s commitment to safer streets and more accessible public spaces, supporting families and community members who rely on these routes for daily travel and recreation.
