NTSB Probes Close Call Between Delta, American Airlines Jets

Federal investigators are examining a runway incident involving aircraft operated by Delta Air Lines and American Airlines at Boston Logan International Airport. The National Transportation Safety Board opened an investigation after the two jets came into close proximity during flight operations on June 21.

Incident Details

According to information released by aviation authorities, a Delta Airbus A319 was approaching for landing when the flight crew initiated a go-around. At the same time, an American Airlines Boeing 737-800 was departing from an intersecting runway. Air traffic controllers directed the Delta aircraft to discontinue its landing approach as a precaution.

Both aircraft continued their flights safely, and no injuries were reported. The Federal Aviation Administration is also reviewing the event as part of its standard safety procedures.

Investigation and Response

Investigators will review flight data, air traffic communications, and operational procedures to determine exactly what occurred and whether any safety recommendations are needed.

The incident has drawn attention because it follows several recent runway and air traffic close calls that have prompted increased scrutiny of aviation safety in the United States. Regulators and lawmakers have been discussing measures aimed at reducing operational risks and strengthening oversight across the aviation system.
