UofL head coach Pat Kelsey has been working on rebuilding the Cardinals’ roster over the past three months. Since taking over, the team has had two winning seasons with a 51-19 record. This past season saw UofL win its first NCAA Tournament game since 2017, marking another moment in the program’s turnaround.
Rebuilding the Team
Kelsey is taking a different approach in his third year, focusing on increasing the team’s length, athleticism, and rim protection. The team has added two seven-foot centers, Obinna Ekezier Jr. and Gabe Dynes, and 6-10 forward Flory Bidunga. Kelsey hopes this new size will make UofL a national title contender this season.
Success is measured and compared to national championships, according to Kelsey. The team will kick off the season on November 24 against Texas Tech in the Players Era 16 tournament in Las Vegas.
