El Paso Animal Services has seen a significant increase in missing or unhoused pets as the summer begins and the Fourth of July holiday nears. Within the last week, nearly 600 pets have been entered into their two local facilities, bringing the total number of pets in their care to over 1,000.
Preparing for the Holiday
The shelter is preparing for its largest intake day of the year, as celebratory fireworks often scare pets and cause them to run away. To help free up valuable kennel space for animals who may arrive after the holiday, El Paso Animal Services is encouraging people to foster a pet, even temporarily.
To foster a pet, you must be 18 years or older, live in El Paso, and have a valid photo ID. You can learn more about fostering by visiting the El Paso Animal Services website.
