The 1895 Homemade Ice Cream Shop in Shawnee, Oklahoma, recently held a Father’s Day ice cream social to express gratitude to the community for their support after a fire damaged the shop’s display freezer.

Just over a week ago, the shop’s display freezer caught fire, with security cameras capturing the moment flames erupted. Following the loss, the shop turned to the community for help, starting a GoFundMe campaign to replace the freezer and calling for volunteers to assist with its installation.
Beau Dorrough, the shop’s owner, said that the community’s response was a full-circle moment for him. ‘It was a good thing. Most of them are from the businesses right here on Main Street. The reason we opened this ice cream shop was to help revitalize Main Street, and so to have them show up and help us with that was just an awesome feeling,’ Dorrough stated.
Dorrough also mentioned that freezers like theirs typically take months to replace, but the company they called happened to have one on hand, allowing them to get back up and running just in time for the busy summer season.
