A recent poll conducted by Noble Predictive Insights found that roughly 70% of Americans are at least somewhat concerned that artificial intelligence could replace their jobs. The poll, which surveyed 2,585 registered voters, found that 34% of respondents reported feeling somewhat concerned, while 36% said they were very concerned about AI replacing them at work.
Concerns Vary by Demographic
The level of concern about AI replacing jobs varied across different demographics. Individuals with less education reported greater levels of concern, with 40% of respondents with a high school degree or less saying they were very concerned about AI taking their jobs. Similarly, 41% of individuals with a household income lower than $50,000 per year reported concerns about AI replacing them at work.
There also appeared to be a correlation between political affiliation and level of concern, with Democrats appearing to be more concerned about AI’s impact on the workforce than Republicans. About 41% of Democrat respondents said they were very concerned about AI taking over their jobs, compared to 31% of Republicans who said the same.
Education and Awareness
Mike Noble, founder of Noble Predictive Insights, emphasized the importance of educating people about the impact of AI on the workforce. He suggested that AI companies need to focus on ways to educate people about the benefits and limitations of AI, rather than simply scaling their operations. By doing so, individuals can better understand how to leverage AI as a tool, rather than viewing it as a replacement for their jobs.
