A fan decided to get close to the action at a NASCAR event in San Diego by jumping a fence during a red-flagged race. The O’Reilly Auto Parts Series was taking place at Naval Base Coronado when the incident occurred.
The race was red-flagged after a restart, and crews were cleaning up the mess when the fan jumped the fence and approached driver Sheldon Creed. The fan, who was wearing flip-flops, chatted with Creed for a moment before jumping back over the fence and returning to the crowd.
Creed said on the radio that he thought the fan was intoxicated. The incident was reminiscent of a similar incident in 2007 at Watkins Glen, N.Y., where a fan jumped a fence to get an autograph from Matt Kenseth.
