New Mexico is bracing for a hot Father’s Day, with temperatures expected to be five to 10 degrees hotter than average. A high pressure system, also known as a heat-dome, is expanding over the state, ensuring the heat continues through at least mid-week.
Heat-Dome to Bring Relief Later in the Week
The heat-dome is expected to back off and weaken later in the week, allowing for backdoor fronts to bring some heat-relief along with chances for showers and thunderstorms. However, the heat-dome could return for next weekend.
Residents are advised to take precautions to stay safe in the heat, including drinking plenty of water and staying hydrated. The heat advisory is in effect for several counties, including Chavez, Eddy, and Lee.
