A suspect is in custody after a series of attacks in Edinburgh, Scotland, left five men injured. The attacks, which are believed to have been anti-Muslim, began near a mosque where two men were injured just before 9 p.m. Friday.

The suspect, a 36-year-old Scottish man, also allegedly attacked three other men in another part of the city. None of the victims have life-threatening injuries. Counterterrorism officials are investigating the incident, which has been condemned by the Muslim Council of Britain.

The suspect allegedly told police that he was ‘protecting the country’ when he was caught. The incident has raised concerns about faith-based hate and racism in Scotland.
