Lmpd Hosts Youth Basketball Tournament

Louisville Metro Police held a community basketball tournament at Fairdale High School on Saturday. The tournament, hosted by LMPD’s Community Engagement Unit, aimed to promote unity, peace, and community in Louisville youth.

Stop the Violence Basketball Tournament

Sixteen teams, consisting of eight boys’ teams and eight girls’ teams, participated in the tournament. The teams were made up of kids aged 11 to 14, who competed in a morning of friendly competition. The tournament was completely free for players, coaches, and spectators, and players were allowed to keep the uniforms provided by LMPD.

Youth violence has seen a decrease of roughly 38% from 2025, and city officials believe that building connections with Louisville’s youth is key to this trend. The tournament is an example of the efforts being made to promote community and prevent violence among young people.
