Israeli Ambassador to the United Nations Danny Danon strongly condemned the UN’s decision to add Israel to a blacklist of entities suspected of committing sexual violence. Danon clashed with UN Special Representative Vanessa Frazier during a meeting marking the International Day for the Elimination of Sexual Violence in Conflict.

Blacklist Controversy

The UN’s annual Conflict-Related Sexual Violence report listed Israeli entities, including the Israel Defense Forces, the Israel Prison Services, and the border police Counter Terrorism Unit, as being credibly suspected of committing or being responsible for patterns of rape or other sexual violence. Danon argued that Israel was being unfairly targeted and that the UN had caved to pressure from other countries.

Danon also called for the resignation of UN Special Representative on Sexual Violence in Conflict Pramila Patten, who was not present at the meeting. He accused Patten of lending credibility to a politically motivated campaign against Israel and of not independently reviewing the evidence or giving Israel a fair opportunity to address the allegations.
