With the score tied at one, Doval surrendered a grand slam to Andrew Benintendi that broke the game wide open — the only at-bat Benintendi needed all night.
Ryan Weathers battled through six-and-a-third strong innings, allowing just one run on three hits with eight strikeouts. But the bullpen couldn’t hold the line — Fernando Cruz and Tim Hill also struggled in relief. Sean Burke was outstanding for Chicago, going seven-and-a-third with eight strikeouts of his own to pick up the win.
Ryan McMahon’s solo home run was the lone Yankee run. New York managed just six hits as a team and went hitless in two at-bats with runners in scoring position.
