Tyrese Parson, a 17-year-old high school student, was found dead on a sidewalk on the east side of Des Moines on June 8, 2018. His case remains unsolved, and his family is still seeking answers.
Family’s Plea for Justice
Susan Ellsworth, Tyrese’s grandmother, remembers the phone call she received from her daughter telling her that her grandson was dead. ‘My legs gave out. I just fell on the ground,’ Ellsworth said. Tyrese’s mother, Heather Parson, expressed her grief and frustration, saying, ‘It’s something that I always think about. I look at my life like I have a before and I have an after now. Everything has changed.’
Des Moines police say they have followed up on hundreds of tips, but the case has been hard to solve due to a lack of ballistic evidence. Police believe that someone possibly shot from a moving vehicle as the teens ran away. ‘What is going to break the case is somebody saying, ‘I can’t hang on to this knowledge that I have anymore,” said Des Moines police Sgt. Paul Parizek.
