Construction has started to fully replace the May Avenue bridge in northwest Oklahoma City, 10 years after a truck hit the bridge and caused a partial collapse. Although the bridge was repaired, officials said it’s now time for a full replacement as part of a $15 million project that is expected to take about two years.
Project Details
The work will be completed in phases, and city officials said drivers should prepare for big traffic changes during demolition and construction. Westbound traffic on the Northwest Expressway will temporarily close to drivers starting at 8 p.m. on Sunday. Drivers who usually use that area should plan for overnight closures from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. each night in the following areas:
- Westbound Northwest Expressway will temporarily close to all traffic Sunday, June 21, and Monday, June 22
- Eastbound Northwest Expressway will temporarily close to all traffic on Tuesday, June 22, and Wednesday, June 24
May Avenue traffic at Northwest Expressway will be diverted to a temporary asphalt detour starting Thursday. Traffic will be controlled by temporary signals during construction.
