The first full week of the FIFA 2026 World Cup is in the books. Every team has played a match, and starting Thursday we will begin the second round of games for each nation.

Group A Standings

Mexico currently leads the way in Group A with three points and a goal differential of +2. They can clinch the group — and guarantee a match against a third-place team from Group C, E, F, H, or I in the Round of 32 — if they defeat South Korea, and Czechia either draws or loses to South Africa.

South Korea can win Group A on Thursday and line up a match in the Round of 32 against a third-place team. They can do that with a win over Mexico, provided South Africa draws or loses to Czechia.

South Africa faces elimination on Thursday. With a loss to Czechia, they would be eliminated from the Round of 32 if South Korea wins or draws against Mexico.

Tiebreakers

If two or more teams in the same group are equal on points following the group stage, a three-step process will be followed to determine tiebreakers. The greatest number of points in the group matches between the tied teams will be applied, then the superior goal difference from the group matches between the tied teams will be applied, and finally, the greatest number of goals scored in all group matches between the tied teams will be applied.
