Rose Cook, a new resident of Hoover, has opened the Visual Feast Gallery in the Patton Creek shopping center. The gallery features Cook’s paintings and jewelry, as well as the works of about seven other artists.
A Gap in the Arts Community
Cook, who has been making art for nearly 40 years, identified a need for more art galleries in the Birmingham area, particularly in Hoover. She decided to fill this gap by opening her own gallery, which does not require exclusive contracts with participating artists.
The 1,000-square-foot space showcases a variety of art forms, including photography, ceramics, and watercolor and oil paintings. Prices range from $200 to $1,800, with some larger pieces by oil painter Steve Carmichael priced up to $2,500.
Support from the Community
Darla Williamson, a visual artist and member of the Hoover Arts Council, welcomes the new gallery, noting that there are few places in Hoover for artists to display and sell their work.
Cook’s determination to make the gallery a success is driven by her passion for art and her commitment to providing a platform for local artists. Despite the challenges posed by inflation, she remains optimistic about the gallery’s future.
