US Wins Record Number of Medals at World Wine Awards

The United States had a record-breaking year at the world’s largest wine awards, with two Best in Show and 32 gold medals. California, Oregon, and Washington continued to dominate, but Texas had a landmark year with its first-ever Gold medals.

US Wine Industry on the Rise

According to Pierre Mansour, a judge and regional chair of the Decanter World Wine Awards, the US wine industry is experiencing a golden era. The US is the fastest-growing wine market in the world, and there is still much opportunity for growth.

Texas Hill Country is becoming a notable wine region, with three wines from the area winning Gold medals. Fredericksburg in Hill Country is being compared to Napa Valley, with some 75 wineries for visitors to explore.

Other states, such as Virginia and Pennsylvania, also won Gold medals. Virginia won five Gold medals, including Chestnut Oak Vineyard, Chestnut One, Monticello 2023, and Early Mountain Vineyards, Quaker Run Cabernet Franc 2022. Pennsylvania won a Gold medal for Benigna’s Creek, Chambourcin 2024.
