Gov. Kim Reynolds’ Iowa Nuclear Task Force held its final meeting, aiming to advance nuclear energy technology and infrastructure in Iowa. The task force’s objectives include designating a state contact, studying potential project locations, training workers, and helping communities decide whether nuclear energy is suitable for them.
Nuclear Energy in Iowa
The group is expected to submit a report to state leaders by July. Iowa is uniquely positioned for the next chapter of nuclear energy, with a foundation, a strong energy mix, a history of safety operations, and a growing need for reliable, always-on power to support its economy.
Currently, Iowa does not have an operational nuclear energy plant. Efforts are underway to reopen the Duane Arnold Nuclear Plant in Palo.
