Mission Local, a news organization, is looking to hire a senior editor to oversee a team of reporters and help direct the daily operations of the editorial news team. The ideal candidate is a strong manager with experience in daily and enterprise journalism, able to restructure narratives, line edit, and copy edit quickly.
Responsibilities
The senior editor will supervise four to six reporters and interns in news-gathering and reporting efforts, and will be responsible for managing the newsroom’s editorial calendar, assigning and editing stories, and leading special coverage projects. The editor will also participate in long-term strategic planning and help build a culture of feedback in the newsroom.
The ideal candidate has at least 5 years of experience in a newsroom, a strong track record of publishing compelling stories, and enthusiasm for thinking and working creatively and collaboratively with journalists. Experience with content management systems, such as WordPress, is a plus.
