Bass Pro Shops has acquired the historic Cheeca Lodge & Spa, an iconic fishing resort in the heart of the Florida Keys. The outdoor company purchased Cheeca to connect customers to world-class fishing and hospitality in nature-based properties, as well as to unite the lodge with the neighboring World Wide Sportsman Store & Marina, which was acquired by Bass Pro in 1997.
Preserving Heritage
The lodge is located in Islamorada, known as “the sportfishing capital of the world.” Bass Pro plans to “enhance” the resort while preserving its heritage. Like Bass Pro’s flagship Big Cedar Lodge in the Missouri Ozarks, the company aims to make a world-class nature-based resort in the heart of the Florida Keys.
Cheeca Lodge has lodges and cottages with oceanfront views and includes three tropical swimming pools, a full-service spa, a 9-hole golf course, and a 525-foot fishing pier and other amenities. It was founded in 1946. Cheeca will be united with the neighboring World Wide Sportsman Store & Marina to create a “true seaside adventure paradise.”
